The reliable spine
The non-AI spine is the source-linked workflow: clean records, rules, calculations, integrations, exception queues, approvals and reporting for Die, mould, pattern and roll management.
Metals, Foundries & Steel
Dies, patterns, moulds and rolls are lakhs-to-crores assets with a finite life and a per-part cost almost nobody tracks, so refurbishment happens reactively after a die cracks or a roll wears mid-run, and real tooling cost never enters the quote. For forging the H13/H21 hot-work die is the canonical case; for a foundry it is the pattern and mould; for re-rolling it is the roll and roll-pass schedule. A metals quote that does not carry the true cost of metal, energy, yield loss and tooling is silently wrong, and most are. A fabrication shop quotes a structure off a drawing by eye, missing plate-nesting scrap and the real weld and fit-up hours; a foundry quotes a casting without the real metal-cost-per-part, melt yield or pattern cost; a forging shop quotes without tool-cost-per-part; a re-rolling mill prices its dealer book without netting energy and yield. When a scrap or power index moves, every old quote is wrong. The same part gets quoted at two prices by two people, and the margin assumption is never written down.
Who has it
For tool and roll management, foundries (patterns and moulds), forging and heat-treatment units (forging dies), re-rolling mills (rolls and roll-pass), and lightly fabrication shops (jigs and fixtures). For quoting and costing, fabrication shops (drawing-based weight costing), re-rolling mills (dealer pricing), forging and heat-treatment units (OEM costing), foundries (casting costing) and scrap and metal traders (rate spread).
What we build
A tool master with a strokes, cycles and tonnes counter, refurb-due and roll-change alerts, and a tool-cost-per-part figure that finally puts real tooling cost into the quote. One standard costing template (metal at live rate, energy per tonne, yield loss, process, tooling, overhead, margin) so every quote is built the same way, with drawing-based weight takeoff and plate-nesting yield for fabrication, real metal-cost-per-part and pattern cost for casting, and tool-cost-per-part for forging drawn from the tool master above; a quote register that versions each quote and re-prices when a linked scrap or power index moves; and win and loss capture so the next quote is sharper.
What is automated, where AI helps, who signs off
The reliable spine
The non-AI spine is the source-linked workflow: clean records, rules, calculations, integrations, exception queues, approvals and reporting for Die, mould, pattern and roll management.
Where AI helps
AI is limited to bounded reading, extraction, matching, clustering or drafting from the firm's own data for Die, mould, pattern and roll management; it never owns the number, the approval, the promise or the decision.
Who signs off
A named person signs off anything touching money, stock, a customer promise, a regulated filing, a payment, a price, a credit decision or a people decision.
What changes day to day
Refurbishment is scheduled before failure, not after; tool cost enters the price; a crore-class die or roll stops failing mid-run; quote turnaround drops from days to under a day; quoting stops depending on which estimator is in; and the margin assumption is explicit and includes metal, energy, yield and tooling. Illustrative; final numbers come from your own data.
Illustrative outcome

Illustrative: a structural fabrication shop standardised drawing-based weight costing with plate-nesting yield and cut quote turnaround so far it stopped losing project bids to slow response.
